 In earlier drafts, there was a lot of knitting imagery: knots, tangled wool, unraveling and recreating.  After a while, it became too obvious and all the in-your-face metaphors were deleted.  But here’s Cat trying to explain the most disturbing aspects of her situation via yarn.

I’m telling the truth.

            I’m sorry about all the blood.

            If it helps, I see where I went wrong. 

            If I’d thought things through better, there might have been a different outcome.  I might be a better person.  Everybody might be singing show tunes in the shower.

            But we’re stuck with what happened, all the twists and complications.

            It’s like a basketful of tangled yarn from a sweater you had to unravel because you knit knots into it by mistake. But if you take that strand of yarn between your fingers, you can follow it all the way down to the place where it stops. 

            This is me straightening out the knotted strand.

            This is me coming clean.
